Lil' Peeps Pendants: The Story Behind Them!
A long time ago, there was no ultrasound machine in Sumba. My mum was pregnant with her third child, and they were hoping for a little girl to arrive next. At the time, my Aunty Inah was studying in East Java. Filled with hope, she began creating a special embroidery as a gift for my mum. The artwork symbolised a dream of a little girl and reflected my mother’s wishes before I was born.
Aunty Inah sent the embroidery to Sumba just before my arrival. It shows a little girl in a red and white dress and hat, watering flowers, with my name—LIA—delicately stitched into the scene. That artwork still hangs in my parents’ home in Sumba, a quiet reminder of where my story began.
In 2020, inspired by that very piece, I created my first Lil' Peep Pendant. Though it’s a bit different from the original embroidery, it carries the same spirit—hope, dreams, and the quiet beauty of a mother’s wish.
